CIEH Principles of Controlling Substances Hazardous to Health
Course outline
This Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) course is aimed at persons who use substances hazardous to health and introduces candidates to the hazards associated with those substances, the risks and controls available and what to expect from a COSHH assessment. Candidates who successfully pass the multiple-choice assessment will be awarded the CIEH Principles of Controlling Substance Hazardous to Health certificate.

Aims
To introduce candidates to the hazards, risks and control measures associated with substances hazardous to health.
Objectives
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:
explain what is meant by the tern ‘substances hazardous to health’;
explain how hazardous substances can cause ill-health and injury, and give examples;
state the different ways in which hazardous substances may be identified;
state the principles for controlling substances hazardous to health and apply these in a practical context;
demonstrate a general understanding of the value and purpose of conducting a COSHH assessment and what employees can expect of such assessments;
demonstrate an understanding of the main provisions of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations
